Why not give the gift of life this Christmas?

Red Cross First Aid Courses & First Aid Kits

If you’re looking for a last minute Christmas gift with a difference, why not give something that could potentially save the life of your family or friends? Australian Red Cross sets a benchmark in providing First Aid Courses and a range of First Aid Kits for the home, workplace and leisure activities.

In a ‘true life story’ Rod Schwarz recently completed a Red Cross Senior First Aid – Refresher course and has used his first aid skills many times at work and at home. “My wife severely burnt herself at home and I treated her for burn injuries.  Having the first aid training made it a lot easier to treat her and her injuries would have been far worse. “Everyone should at least know the basics and have a first aid kit in their home.  I just bought my third kit - I have one in my house and one in each car.  Giving a first aid course or kit for a Christmas present is a great idea. The benefits far outweigh the price of a kit – you can’t put a price on a life,” said Mr Schwarz.

With more than 400,000 hospital admissions due to injury each year , Red Cross Greater Western Sydney Regional Manager Jennifer Savage said knowing what to do in an emergency when someone is injured can make all the difference to their chances of recovery. "Injuries can happen anywhere, anytime and result in an estimated 8,000 or 6% of deaths in Australia each year . The assistance given to an injured person in the first few minutes can make a significant difference to the severity of the injury, and in some cases, even save a life,” Mrs Savage said.

Australian Red Cross provides a range of first aid courses in western Sydney, with training venues at Campbelltown, Liverpool, Canley Vale, Penrith, Blacktown and Westmead Children’s Hospital. Courses include Senior First Aid, SFA - Refresher and Caring For Children. Topics covered include CPR, wound care and bandaging, bone and muscle injuries, and poisoning, bites and stings, with advanced courses also available. Profits from first aid services and products support the humanitarian work of the Red Cross.
