Picked up this piece of nonsense during the break and thought I’d share it with you.
There were these four people named somebody, everybody, anybody and nobody, who were supposed to be involved in an important project.
Everybody was sure that somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but nobody did. Somebody got angry about it because it was everybody’s job, while everybody thought that anybody could have done it, but nobody realised that everybody wouldn’t do it.
Finally, it ended up with everybody blaming somebody when nobody did what anybody could have done.
It will get better I assure you.
That bird’s been around
That mischievious little bird tells me that a former senior city council staffer who left our council under a cloud late last year may have received an offer of a big job with a Sydney–based organisation.
What’s more, the bird went on to suggest the same person might be in line down the track for a big job at our Port Authority,
Then there’s the bird talk which suggests a leading local attraction for real overseas tourists might be on the market. I’ll let you know more about what might be brewing when I hear more.

Strange decision
So our parliamentarians in NSW want to see everyone at a bar drinking from plastic containers.
What about those people who prefer a Corona or Blondie? It just wouldn’t look right for them to have to pour it into such a container.

Let’s get the real facts first
In all the talk about how we might be able to save the Illawarra Hawks from oblivion in the National Basketball League I’ve only seen one public statement about getting the current management to make their books available for public scrutiny.
The big question as far as I am concerned is how the management allowed the club to get into such a poor financial state before seeking to act earlier to try and save the day?
And let’s stop hammering Blue Scope Steel to come to the rescue – I would have thought you’ve spent most of your life doing this anyway Andy – and stop suggesting the city council levies successful companies for, after all, that’s not a role for the council.
Maybe we’re just too close to Sydney and being able to have financially viable clubs in national competitions is beyond us after all. History would suggest so.

When will we ever go forward?
It comes as no real surprise to read that our forward thinking city councillors have rejected plans for the re-development of the North Beach Bathers Pavilion largely based on heritage grounds.
And yet they were quick to pounce on new CEO David Farmer’s plan to introduce a Blue Mile proposal which is supposed to modernise our major foreshore.
Maybe we should just place the whole city under a massive heritage order and change our name to “Woodsville”.

Time alone will tell
The new Federal Government’s decision to spend some $150 million to help cut elective surgery waiting lists around the nation will be watched with interest.
Let’s face it, the previous government made monies available, but the states – particularly NSW – couldn’t manage it properly.
So why should we expect a change this time around?

The road to nowhere
Here we go again, another $500,000 State Government handout to promote the Grand Pacific Drive, our much publicised road to nowhere.
I mean, let’s face it, if you are coming down from the north it’s not all that special and after you’ve gone through Austinmer and Thirroul where are you really?
And what about the run-down building and weed infested median strip at the bottom of Bulli Pass.
For those motorists who decide to drive on towards Wollongong and meet the 20 odd traffic lights along the way there’s really not much to look at; there’s every chance that before you know where you are you’ll be driving up past the hospital and heading for where?
Wouldn’t it be a much better idea if we did something to enhance the drive from Bulli to the Gong?

Looking good
From what I hear preparations for Wollongong’s Australia Day celebrations, particularly down Belmore Basin and North Beach way, are shaping up well.
This has always been an event we have excelled at, so get down there on the big day and enjoy the fun and spirit of the day.

We’ve got nothing to Singh about
All this cricketing hype leaves me cold. Let’s face it, in all reality it’s just another game.
But it does bring to mind that we Aussies first got into the sledging act when Ian Chappell was captain and stood at first slip giving our various opponents the odd serve or two.
Of course, he had Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson slinging them down and finishing their deliveries with their noses almost in the face of the opposing batsmen. And then, of course, there was also big Merv Hughes.

Just who is running the country?
Well, it hasn’t taken long to test our new Labor Federal Government out.
Sure, our “talk a leg off a chair” PM Kevin might have been on leave, but where was his total condemnation of the death of Benazir Bhutto, and why didn’t he immediately inform the Australian cricket bosses that we wouldn’t send a team to Pakistan.
And what about the major banks and some leading lending institutions taking rates into their own hands?
