Iodine and breasts

The second of an in-depth series examining an element with important health implications

It is so common that women get swollen and sore breasts at certain times of their period that it is accepted as normal.  Normal, maybe; natural – NO.

It has been known in medical cycles for decades that iodine in the system will prevent the problem and stop the development of fibroids.

Briefly, iodine reduces the sensitivity of the DNA receptors that produce the oestrogen hormones. It also is known to assist in the conversion of Estrone (E2) > 16 hydroxy estrone to Estriol (E3).

16 Hydroxy estrone binds to the DNA and promotes cell proliferation and is considered very potent in its activity.

Note that high cellular levels of copper and low Magnesium levels are also involved in Sore breast syndrome.

Iodine and Breast cancer:

Because of the chemical reactions explained above iodine reduces the amount of 16 hydroxy estrone in breast tissue and improves the 2-16 ratio. This is an important measure of hormone balance; raised levels indicate an increased possibility of breast cancer.

The action of iodine on hormone expression and possible cancer applies to all those cells that are activated for oestrogen production. These include the cervix, uterus, and ovaries, however it is now known that many other parts of the body use oestrogen hormones.

Managing the oestrogen balances is essential for the prevention of cancer.

Iodine and endometriosis:

Endometriosis is a condition which is caused by the lining of the uterus ‘escaping’ and growing in places where it is not supposed to grow. This condition is usually caused by the oestrogen/progesterone balance being out, particularly at the stage of the cycle when the lining should be removed from the uterus.
As Dr Eldred Taylor explains, “Endometriosis hates iodine and if treated early enough will cure the problem. If, however, the endometriosis gets established, it will act like cancer setting up its own blood supply and barriers against progesterone and iodine. Surgical removal may be the only course of action once this occurs.” – International Hormone Conference 2006.

Iodine has also been linked to the sugar management system, and much more.
