You wrote about speeding cameras: The government has worked itself into such frenzy that it will even fine itself.
Not so far fetched as it might sound. Shellharbour City Council prosecuted itself when it took two of its own councillors to the Land and Environment Court.
Fergie. GET CONNECTED WITHOUT SWEEPING STATEMENTS ACCUSING THE INNOCENT
Dear Andrew,
Andrew you usually get it right BUT I take offence at your statement " since the Alan Bonds of this world sullied what used to stand for a lot of the good things".
Like Mike Gibson many years ago who called the Alan Bonds of this world crooks in an article in the Daily Telegraph without giving an apology when I wrote to the Tele re that that article, a letter which was never published,.... an article which tremendously upset my late father.
You, like Gibson, made a sweeping statement but ignored that there may be people with same name who become a laughing stock with people who know them, whether they be friend or foe.
You, like Gibson, should identify the actual English born former West Australian millionaire Alan Bond from the word go, and keep the comments strictly to him without bringing in other people who have the same name with such a, unfortunately, ignorant, sweeping statement that offends. Even though you alluded to the right identification later, it is that sweeping statement in your second line of the opening paragraph that certainly caught my eye, and I'm sure others.
I know you didn't mean to offend but there are those who will use your statement for their own ends, particularly because of the letters I write and will use it to belittle submissions I put into Council. Believe me, there are those in the Illawarra who will do that.
I would hope that next time with whoever, you stick only to the person concerned with clear identification from the outset.
Regards

The religious might like to think this is la case of the prodigal son. The one who is loyal and stays home [Mother and Son was a classic] gets overlooked.

STOCKLAND Vs REALITY
Dear Editor
It is interesting to note that the prediction in 2001 of water rising in the next 100 years was to be about a metre due to global warming. However now it appears according to a new documentary, MELTDOWN on the National Geographic Channel and only recently, contains information that the 2001 prediction was wrong based on technology then. The new predicted height after 100 years, if not sooner, as featured on the program, is just over 6 metres (20 ft on the old scale). Does the report from Stockland and ARV take this into account? Well, no it doesn’t.
The closest they get is section 7.3. COASTAL INUNDATION of the report.
In this they offer respect to the existing climate change, which is nice of them, but all they considered if the sea rose, hit with a 100 year storm event and how far the waves would come in!
What they fail to mention is the now predicted rise above. That rise attributed to glacial meltdown which is a real threat and happening now.
They claim the Stockland area is +8 metres above and is therefore well above the highest potential sea rise level where a wave level run in would be, by their calculations, 4.7 m.
Trouble is, the +8 m is only about 2 m above the now predicted ocean rise level. In any layman’s terms, their site would be over run by 2.7 m waves while the rest will be mostly under water period.
Obviously their consultants missed the program.
Yours Sincerely,
Alan Bond
Why do we keep missing out?
I really think that you have hit the nail on the head. It is significant that since losing the Steelworks, Newcastle has become a much different area and is now in the position where it is no longer a Labor stronghold and there are now in fact several marginal seats in the area. It is, I think you will find, no co-incidence since then that the spending in that area by State Government has greatly increased particularly in comparison to Wollongong. On the other hand Wollongong has continued to be a Labor stronghold and consequently, I believe that our votes do not really count. It seems to be common practice for either party when they are in Government to spend where they think it will influence the voter.
The way our electorates are if Labor are in power there is no need to spend as they will get the votes anyway and if the Liberals are in they see themselves as no chance here so they will spend in some other marginal electorate. I love living in the Illawarra but it would be much more pleasant I am sure for everyone if we could become marginal electorates.
