Your Lifestyle
by Jodie Cooper

A time to think and a time to act

From the very instant we arrive in this beautiful world there is little we are consciously capable of thinking

In fact even being hungry or needing to be changed are very primitive urges that generally reside in our unconscious.

From birth till around the age of three we simply act, we do so with the support, instructions and guidance of our parents. From that point on we are able to think, and calculate what is happening to some degree.

From birth till the age of around nine our unconscious minds are like sponges, literally soaking in all information they come across until at about 9-12 years old, we finally decide we have figured it out. We are able to take that information and give it meaning. Whether that meaning is right or wrong has no influence on our beliefs, it simply is. We then enter the stage of thinking.

As adolescents, we think about everything and anything, we give meaning to the most remote events, action comes slow as we try to make sense of our worlds at a conscious level. How many times have you heard a teen talk for hours about how a member of the opposite sex did or didn’t look at them. They have a need to make sense of the world, and until they can squeeze that little piece of information into a box that fit’s with their view of the world they will think and think and think!

So where are we going with this? The point is our conscious thinking has a huge impact on who we are and what we do. In order to fit into this world effectively we must have thoughts that support us, essentially our thoughts will create our world and rule our outcomes.

So before you act, ensure your thoughts are in a positive realm and that they will in fact assist you in becoming the person you are choosing to become. Do you often think of how many friends you have, the success’s you’ve had so far in your life, or of the challenges you have overcome?

Too many people get caught in the trap of negative thoughts. The patterns of why me, I’ll never be able to do that, why can’t I just get a break. One may well say it’s the time to go out and meet the ship!

At that point, when you are sure of your self-identity and happy with that person, it is time to act. Now is the time to make decisions and to begin creating the life of your choice through those decisions. So I suggest some quiet time to reflect on who you are and what you stand for, and then take action. Action so big that everyone around you will be surprised and impressed with what you’re working towards!

Good luck, and if any of those questions get a little tough to answer, please feel free to call me for a complimentary coaching session on 0409 224 303.
