Industrial Relations and Human Resources Short Courses and Workshops

The Office of Industrial Relations short courses and workshops will help you to understand how the current industrial relations legislation affects your business. They are designed to help you understand your legal rights and obligations as an employer in NSW. The workshops will be conducted in Bowral, Nowra and Wollongong and are scheduled for the next couple of weeks:

Wollongong:  23 July  Employing staff in kindergartens and childcare centres 
Bowral:  29 July  Workplace Policies  
Nowra:  5 August  Industrial relations in NSW

Intro to Business Planning

A good business plan will increase your chances of business success. It will help you identify your customers, market area, pricing strategies, financial and operational goals. By completing a business plan you will better understand your competitive advantages, new opportunities, current weaknesses and longer-term objectives for the business. Having a business plan is also an important requirement for gaining finance from financial institutions.

The aim of this workshop is to provide an overview of the business planning process and increase the skills of participants to enable them to complete a business plan for their business.  Business Plan templates will be provided. 

Time :   12 noon to 1.30pm 
Date :   Tuesday 24 July

This two-hour workshop will help you understand the different aspects of marketing, help you understand how your product / service fits into the whole market and how you can market your business more effectively.  We will discuss:

• Conducting Market Research
• Who’s your Target Market
• Competitors
• The Four Ps of Marketing
• SWOT Analysis
• Requirements of Developing a Marketing Plan

Marketing Tools for Small Business    

Effective marketing is about more than just placing an ad in a newspaper or putting your logo on a t-shirt. You need to be able to communicate well in order to describe your product to a customer, whether it’s online, in person or in an advertisement or flyer. 

This 3-hour workshop will encourage you to start thinking about the application of marketing principles to your business. There are short sessions on knowing and communicating with your customers and distributing your product through different channels including online, networking, advertising and direct sales. You’ll practise presenting your product to others and writing copy for the web and printing. 

Time :  8.45am for 9.00am to 12.00pm  
Date :  Wednesday 6 August at Kiama
           Thursday 7 August at Moss Vale
