Attended an interesting meeting at the weekend where one of the subjects was the time being taken by our Prime Minister to move matters into the parliament.
Seems Kev must peruse every proposal before it is cleared, and with him overseas so much this can take a considerable amount of time, sometimes as long as two months.
My source, who works close to the parliamentarians in Canberra, also suggested that Kev and his crew were slowly realising that words being spoken about containing petrol and food prices, for example, are very hollow indeed and, in fact, these are two areas which could be beyond promised government action.
I also got the feeling that certain areas of the public service were becoming somewhat frustrated with how matters are being managed. Which was evident by the way voters vented their spleens at the weekend’s Northern Territory elections.
Another matter raised was why two formerly prominent Labor frontbenchers Julia Gillard and Peter Garrett seemed to have been pushed into the background of late.

The question of the future of Liberal Peter Costello also came up and it was suggested there would be no move on his leadership aspirations until at least after the former treasurer’s book had been published.
It was also suggested a Costello for leader of the opposition move would not be possible until a position on the Libs front bench had been found for him.

The NRL must do something about the guernseys worn in some games. Just take the Manly versus Storm match on Friday night when it took ages to work out who was who, so close was the colouring of their gear. The same applied on Monday night when the Knights and Titans did battle.
On the other hand if you ever wanted a great advertisement for rugby league I must admit the weekend bout between Manly and the Storm would have been it. What a game!

So far it’s been somewhat difficult to work out who the Beijing Olympic Games are really for – the VIPs and the like or the athletes?
Certainly in the first week the VIPs seemed to hold precedence, so much so that I began to wonder what sport we might see little Kevin try his hand at?
And have you noticed how many athletes choose not so sing their national anthems, or is it they don’t know the words?

It seems that out and about the TV coverage, in particular, by Channel 7 is going down like a lead balloon.
Main complaint seems to be the lateness some of our teams hit the screen and the somewhat erraticness of how much on air time they then get.
But thank goodness for our girls in the pool, particularly the Golden ones Samantha Rice and Libby Trickett ( Lenton ).
And by the time you read this Leisel Jones could have won Gold in the 100 metres breastroke.

But let’s get closer to home where I’m hearing more and more people express their fears about an amalgamation between the cities of Wollongong and Shellharbour.
They’re both large enough now so how could an amalgamated concern be properly managed when we’ve already had both city councils sacked is what I hear the most?
Then there’s the argument that the two areas are different in character.
I guess we’ll have to wait for the overdue ICAC review of Wollongong city council to see what the State Government might do about the matter, and that’s another thing worrying many people out there.

Patrons at a southern Wollongong Leagues Club were far from happy when they fronted on Monday night to be hit with increased liquor costs, including during the happy hour.
From what I hear one or two vented their unhappiness with management and it didn’t go down to well, but from what I also heard the club members general disapproval with the price rise will keep on the boil and management may be in for more criticism.
