Seven local teams in semis of soccer’s Champion of Champions

At the end of each junior and amateur soccer season knockout Champion of Champion tournaments are held between winners of the various grades from football associations across NSW. So far 7 teams representing the Illawarra have progressed to the semi-final stage on October 12.

Figtree is the most successful club so far with 3 teams through to the semis, followed by Unanderra with 2, Balgownie and Woonona 1 each. The results of quarter finals and the draw for the semi-finals on October 12 follows:

Under 10:
Q/F: Figtree 4 Seven Hill 0
S/F: Figtree v Kinkumber; 12.15pm, Valentine Sports Park

Under 11:
Q/F: Unanderra 1 Connells Point 0
S/F:  Unanderra v Terrigal; 9.45 am, Valentine Sports Park

Under 12:
Q/F: Figtree 2 Seven Hills 1
S/F: Figtree v Narellan Rangers; Valentine Sports Park, 9.45am

Under 14:
Q/F: Balgownie 2 Connell’s Point 0
S/F:  Balgownie v Wyoming; Valentine Sports Park, 2.45pm

Under 12 women:
Q/F: Figtree 1 Glenwood Redbacks 0
S/F: Figtree v Colo Colo Cougars; Valentine Sports Park, 9.45am

Under 16 women:
Q/F: Woonona 7 Bexley 1
S/F: Woonona v Springwood; Ray Marshall Field, 11.45am

Under 18 women:
Q/F: Unanderra 5 Rooty Hill RSL 2
S/F: Unanderra v Bosco; Ray Marshall Field, 1.15pm

Hurley goes to Moscow for World Cup after 5 titles

Following his 5 titles at the recent Australian Short Course Championships Illawarra’a Robert Hurley has been rewarded with a place in the Australian Swimming Team to contest the World Cup in Moscow on November 8 & 9, Stockholm on November 12 & 13 and Berlin on November 15 & 16. Hurley is one of only four male swimmers selected in this team.
As reported in last week’s column, Illawarra’s Robert Hurley began well in the Australian Short Course Swimming Championships held last week in Melbourne. At the end of the meet he finished with five titles which were:

• 50 metre backstroke
• 100 metre backstroke
• 200 metre backstroke
• 400 metre freestyle
• 1500 metre freestyle
