Bikes on the rise …

While motor vehicle sales are showing a definite decline motor cycles are becoming increasingly popular with people of all ages

Malcolm Stockton is the Dealer Principal of South Coast Motorcycles at Albion Park Rail and he suggests the reason for rising sales has much to do with how much spare money people have at their disposal, concerns over mortgage payments and the price of fuel.

Bikes offer a more enjoyable, eco friendly and cheaper option, he suggests, pointing out that you can purchase a reliable decent motor cycle from $4000 or $2500 for a scooter ride away plus additional running costs including registration and the like from as little as $12.00 per week!

As added proof that current bike sales are on the up Malcolm says you have to wait at least four weeks before you can be tested for a licence.  In fact, figures indicate a rise of 26 per cent in bike sales.

South Coast Motorcycles who have been trading since 2005 and are dealers for the world-renowned TM Racing and LEM bikes from Italy as well as quality Chinese bikes from Zuma and Arqin Motorcycles, while at the same time offering an excellent parts back up, sales and service and warranty.

People are beginning to take the trends of the rest of the world such as Europe and Asia and, as Malcolm says, It’s common sense to evolve to a smarter form of transport that may not be for everyone, however given the increases will improve our environment together with a magnificent benefit of being cheaper and a fun alternative.

South Coast Motorcycles proudly sponsors with the assistance of local and national suppliers some very dedicated young future stars in achieving their dreams. The South Coast Motorcyles Racing Team launched by our famous International Dual Superbike World Champion Troy Corser have performed quite well locally, State and in the Australian titles.

At the same time Malcolm suggests they are also putting back into the community by fund raising and sponsoring such events as The Ride for Autism (Arqin scooters/6700k’s in three weeks by steel workers), the South Pacific Challenge, Nowra Masters, Menai Minicarna, Yellow Rock and the like..

These local clubs help to provide people of all ages with the opportunity to develop their skills whatever their level or expectations, and the Illawarra would have one of the highest statistics of bikes per capita in Australia, Malcolm says.

South Coast Motorcycles not only specialises in bike sales and necessary accessories, but it also offers a repair and service in all off road bikes, quads, and is also able to offer through Mobile Moto a unique service of not only for registered bikes but also farm quads at your place.

Bikers represent all ages

Bike enthusiasts represent all ages and a wide cross section of tradespeople, mothers, fathers, teenagers, kids and professionals.

“There are many doctors and lawyers, for example, in these clubs and they really enjoy their involvement,” he says.

And while for many of us our image of bikies is largely centred on “those awful bikie gangs” this suggests “you cannot always judge a book by its cover”.
