In the early days of my coaching journey I put together a slide show so that clients could coach themselves when they had challenges outside of our coaching session. I suggest, as you read through the questions, you write down the answers to get the most benefit out of it! The questions in it work so well that I actually use it myself when challenges hit and I need to find an answer and a way forward. Feel free to copy this and keep it around so you know you always have the opportunity to solve whatever challenges present themselves.
Before you move on to read the next question, you must answer the question you are on to really clear things up. Simply reading the list will not give you the outcome you’re looking for!
Here are the questions:
 What is the issue that you would like to work on today?
How will solving this issue assist you in becoming a better person?
What will happen if you don’t resolve this issue?
Who else is this issue effecting? How will their lives improve once it is resolved?
What would be a great outcome today?
What have you been tolerating in your life while this issue has developed?
How is this issue affecting your daily life? How is that a problem for you now?
How have you attempted to resolve it so far?
What obstacles have previously prevented you from achieving this?
How have you allowed them to get in your way?
Who would you like to help and support you with this challenge?
Do you know of anyone who has had a similar issue and has resolved it? What did they do? Could that work for you?
What strengths / personal attributes do you have that will help you resolve this?
What options are available to you now?
What other options are there? Aim for a list of 10-20 options. The more you have the better!
If you were asked advice by a good friend with this challenge, what suggestions would you make to them?
 What do you need to accept to finally resolve this issue?
Of the options you now have, what will satisfy your core values most?
What is the one option that you’re choosing not to look at? What effect is this having?
What will it be like when this issue is resolved? How will things be different?
Go forward 6 months, to a place where this issue has long since been resolved. Notice how things are as a result of your actions. How does this issue look now?
What is the one piece of information that is missing in order for you to make this decision?
If all fear of failure and feelings of judgment were removed what would or could you do?
What is the first step you need to take towards the action you have decided upon?
How committed are you to solving this on a scale of 1–10? (10 being absolutely committed.)
 Once you have taken that first step, will the rest become much easier?
Who do you need to tell about this decision or action that you have just made?
What’s different this time from the other attempts at trying to resolve this?
How do you know that this will finally resolve the challenge?
What will happen if it arises again?
What will your future contain now that this issue is resolved?
I trust you have achieved what you set out to accomplish. There are many paths around each challenge and sometime it takes a little exploring to figure out the best way.
