Waste of WCC ratepayers’ money
There is still a certain group of land owners in the north (not all of them) who are still trying to exert pressure on WCC, particularly one administrator, to free their speculated land into residential.
They even have a meeting lined up with the new Planning Minister to put their case again when the New LEP 2009 goes on exhibition.
There was a Commission of Inquiry on this particular zoned land back in the 1990s. Over 5,000 submissions of objection were lodged. Common sense and the objectors won. Those submissions still stand and are not subject to a sunset clause.
It is interesting to note that one of the current administrators of WCC was involved at the time through the State Planning Dept.
These land owners also instigated a WCC survey a couple of years back to the tune of $20,000 of ratepayers’ money for WCC to come up with the same result. This survey was conducted without the knowledge of the two local councillors until the survey results were presented much to their astonishment.
However this does not just involve WCC, but also Sutherland Shire Council who strongly objected in the ‘90s COI.
The most vocal landowner bought their land as a rates default and has indicated to a local that they would sell it for $40,000. Perhaps this would be
a good investment for WCC, State Government and the NPWS to end this continual nonsense that permits those involved speculated land owners to keep going back wasting ratepayers money and Council’s time to get a better result for their gamble.
