Incredible allowance by the Rees Government

I was certainly not wrong when I recently wrote about the start of the rape of the Illawarra Escarpment with the incredible allowance by the Rees Government of the Links Living Golf suburb on Maddens Plains.

Well, the concept anyway in this time of world recession.

Now back before Wollongong City Council is another monstrosity of six large lots on Maddens Plains from the Princess Highway through to the Illawarra Escarpment Conservation Area.

This was resoundingly rejected by Council previously but I guess that’s not good enough for some developers who keep removing pieces of their development proposals so they can get them finally passed to remove pieces of land.

These six large lots consist of a single homestead stuck on at least 40 hectares isolated from the rest of civilization in the middle of a designated high risk bush fire zone.

The proposals cite no threatened species, but yes there is. Humans in bushfires. With the headlines of 20 houses or more recently lost in Victoria, residents of Stanwell Tops, Stanwell Park, Helensburgh, Otford and Darkes Forest don’t want even the remotest chance of a fire starting because of some accident at any of these proposed developments. You eliminate the extra risk by eliminating the proposals.

Why on earth anyone would want to live in those areas is beyond comprehension, or even placing their own lives at risk. It is also introducing cats and dogs into the wildlife corridor of the area.

Of course these proposals are letting some of the 7d Hacking River zone land speculators chortling and rubbing their hands with glee, and using the old saying, if they can do it why can’t we?  But this is different, it’s not the Hacking River catchment which must be left in pristine condition.

Council must be supported in their continuing objection to these proposals.
