Junior cricketers’ outstanding performances

Last weekend’s one day matches in Illawarra junior cricket saw some outstanding performances in the younger grades.

Wests White’s 14B scored an impressive 7/202 off their 26 overs against Corrimal thanks to great batting from D Fenandez (50 – retired) and J Sutherland (41 not out). In Corrimal’s innings of 8/92, Sutherland completed a magnificent all round performance taking 3 wickets for 8.

Other batting retirees in the 14B grade included:

• Keira Red’s N Blewitt (50) and R Gyngell (50) in their team’s win over Thirroul White.
• Keira Black’s D Constable (51) and N Stacey (49 no) in the team’s win over Thirroul Black

In the 14B game between Dapto Blue and Balgownie White, J McCready’s 4/37 was not enough to prevent Dapto Blue (5/85) taking the match over the Magpies (7/84).

Wicketkeeper L Le Bas showed his batting prowess by top scoring for Port Kembla under 12s with 43 (retired) against Balgownie White. The Port bowlers (A Brbevski 3 wickets for no runs, B Niceforo 3/5) then backed up to roll Balgownie for 37 despite opener Luke Moran’s lone hand of 19. Also in the under 12s, Thirroul Blue’s J Fowles retired on 42 in his team’s total of 2/96 to take the first innings points over Keira Red who had made 6/94 (O Christie 39).

In the under 12 game between Helensburgh and Wests Blue, Burgh bowlers S Brady (3/5) and L Sida combined to dismiss Wests for 39. Helensburgh made 4/50 to take the match.

In the under 11s outstanding performances came from:

• Wests Red’s S Murthy retired on 32 in its innings of 1/74 to defeat Keira Red (9/73)
• Dapto’s B Darlington and B Webb both retired on 30 in their team’s win (1/87) over Helensburgh (6/84)

In the under 10s Keira Red’s T Russell (34no retired) and T Chapman (35) led the way in their team’s score of 8/128 over Thirroul White (94). Wests Blue’s D Koprivec (28) also retired in his team’s 5/132 to take the points over Wollongong White (7/57).

The combined Illawarra and South Coast competitions in under 16A, 16B and 14A complete their current two day round on Saturday February 14.
