Brockley’s 8 wickets in Balgownie junior cricket outright

Balgownie bowler Kyle Brockley took 5 wickets for 5 runs in Albion Park’s first innings total of 16 in under 14A Illawarra/South Coast Junior Cricket last Saturday. After Bally declared at 1 for 118 runs ( C Brown 48no, B Chapman 41no) Albion Park was sent in again and they could only manage 19 runs in the second innings with Brockley taking 3 for none and J Corby 3 for 7.  Albion Park only had 8 players so this did not help their batting but may have also prevented Brockley taking ten wickets for the match. This all took place on the first day of a scheduled two day match.

Also in 14A Dapto have already secured first innings points on day 1 having dismissed Thirroul for 23 and the scoring 2/110 in their innings so far. After 8 completed rounds in 14A Balgownie lead the competition from Wests, Dapto and Shellharbour City.

In the under 12 round completed last weekend, J Moore of Wests Red compulsorily retired at 76 in his team’s total of 8/159 against Port Kembla. His batting was even more spectacular in that no other Wests batsman made double figures. Port Kembla were then dismissed for 133 with J Sproule starring with the ball in taking 5/21 off 6 overs.

Also in the under 12s Keira Black’s A Llatse led the bowlers taking 6 for 12 to have Thirroul White dismissed for 83, 4 runs short of Keira’s 87 in a nail biter.   Thirroul White’s J Soles had earlier taken 3/2 in Keira’s innings.

The top junior grade, 16A is half way through the ninth round and after 8 completed rounds the fight is really on for the four semi spots. Lake Illawarra leads the way on 121 points followed by Thirroul on 112, Balgownie 96 and Wests Blue 83. Not far out of the four are Corrimal on 81 and Port Kembla on 79.

After 12 rounds of 16B, Dapto (175 points) leads from Kiama (171), Helensburgh (153) and Corrimal (149) with Oak Flats Gerringong (138) in fifth and still with a chance of making the semis.
