Read with interest in one of those numerous magazines you find in a doctor’s surgery a list of how people rate the top 40 professions and we journalists could only come in at number 35.
Nevertheless we finished ahead of politicians who came in at 39 and telemarketers at 40.
Ambulance officers, fire fighters and pilots were at the forefront and while I was a bit surprised with the pilots I have no argument with the other two.
Then there were the ratings on people, with Perth burns specialist Dr Fiona Woods at number one, The Wiggles at five and Hugh Jackman at 16.
Queen Elizabeth came in at 23, nine ahead of Nicole Kidman, while our Prime Minister finished at number 62, although he was ahead of his deputy Julia Gillard (69), opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull (90) and the 100th option, disgraced businessman Rodney Adler.
More BlueScope rumours
Received an anonymous note recently suggesting that BlueScope Steel had given the boot to some 70 marketing and sales people.
The company’s local PR department hadn’t heard anything of the sort so one could probably presume “anonymous” was being mischievous.
And anyway the local branch wouldn’t employ anywhere near this number of people in the jobs mentioned.
But alas we are no clearer as the company hasn’t replied to our telephone call and subsequent email.
So, who do we really believe?
Well done fellows
Basketball ace Mat Campbell and surfing champion Mick Lowe were among those who enjoyed a barefoot bowls day in aid of The KidzWish Foundation at The Orb Bowling Club recently.
Mick was one of the main organisers for the event, which raised several thousand dollars, to help provide some spending money for Leo Legana, an eight-year-old suffering from primordial dwarfism when he and his family visit the USA in the near future.
Others to attend were Dragons star Shaun Timmins, the 1966 skipper of the Dragons Billy Smith, former Aussie skipper John Peard and another former international and ex Manly captain, Fred Jones.
The Legana family from Kanahooka will attend a world conference on Leo’s problems and will also visit Disneyland.
A night to forget
Sunday night’s annual TV Logies presentation was a night to forget and without Rove comic David Hughes there would have been little or no bite to it at all.
While Hughsie might have appeared to be a bit too crude with some of his jokes, at least he made you sit up and take notice.
Once again, the awards were dominated by the usual regulars like Home and Away and Neighbours and the like, and as for the NRL Footy Show on Channel 9 winning a big gong, well all I can say is other similar shows must be dreadful.
And where’s our local musical talent gone? There were no Johnny Farnhams, Jimmy Barnes or David Campbells on show. Surely we must have some talent out there?
The induction into the Hall of Fame of movie buff Bill Collins was, however, of note.
I should have watched the cricket, even if we did go down to Pakistan! |
