Defence, Employee Relations and Training feature at i3net

The i3net held an informative recent meeting at the University of Wollongong.

Presentations from Professor John Norrish (Faculty of Engineering) and Howard Williams (DMW Group) were well received. 

Professor Norrish gave an enlightening presentation on Defence Initiatives and Opportunities in the region. He explained the Defence Materials Technology Centre’s vision is to enhance ADF’s future operations, readiness and sustainment.

He went on to add that through industry led research programs, they will achieve their vision by developing and delivering advanced materials and manufacturing technology that is incorporated into industry products and services to:

–Increase the operational capability of platforms and personnel, and
–Reduce through-life support costs of Defence equipment.

Mr Howard Williams, Centre for Employment Relations, a Division of the DMW Group gave an informative and detailed presentation on industrial relations issues.  The new legislation changes effective on 1 July 2009 will impact business in far reaching ways.  Mr Williams stressed that employers need to understand these changes and implement them now so that they comply with the new legislation.  Mr William’s office provides a service by consulting with business to facilitate this.  Contact Howard Williams via email: howard@centre4er.com.

The next i3net Networking Breakfast Meeting is on Tuesday 12 May 2009 - at 8.30 am; Venue – TAFE, Wollongong (Foley Road Campus) Block V.

Presentations will be from - Dr Michael Clements, UOW, Faculty of Commerce, Internship Program and Marty Burgess, Faculty Director of Trades and Technology on training at the TAFE.

A brief tour of the TAFE foundry is available after the meeting.
