The Emus departed Australia on Saturday 27 March.  The team will play three lead up games before the tournament commences on April 3.

Hand scores as Thirroul tops in junior cricket

Thirroul’s under 16A team took out the title for 2009-10 in the combined Illawarra South Coast Junior cricket competition. Thirroul bowled their final opponents Oak Flats out for 207 in 54 overs. In reply Thirroul lost their first wicket before scoring, but number three Jacob Hand took charge and held the innings together with a well compiled 96 not out. He was well supported by captain Jackson Stewart (33), Lachlan Dunn (34) and Tom Green (41 not out). Thirroul passed Oak Flats’ score with three wickets in hand. Stewart and Dunn also took two wickets as did Lewis Clements and Lachlan McPherson.
In the 16B competition final, Keira batted first against Port Kembla and struggled to make 119 with Benjamin Goodhew (27) and Nicholas Stacey (24) the main contributors. However, in Port’s innings opener Nicholas Purdevski (38) found little support and Port were bowled out for 96. Sam Hocking (3/25) and Jack Matinca (3/32) were the main destroyers for Keira.
In the 14A competition final, the bowlers again dominated. Wests Illawarra batted first against Keira and were dismissed for 153 in 53.4 overs. Sam Benson top scored with 43 while Tom O’Brien (22) and Ben Caudero (21) were also significant contributors. In the chase for the title, none of Keira’s batsmen could make double figures and they were dismissed for 57 in the 40th over. Top wicket takers for Wests were Tylar Edwards 3/9 and Nikhil Verma 2/16.
