Four Wollongong Roller Hawks in World Championship team

Basketball Australia has announced the 12 athletes selected to represent the Australian Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team (Rollers) at the 2010 IWBF World Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Birmingham, England next week.
The Australian team remains unchanged from the 12 athletes that lined up at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester in May and includes four players from the powerful Wollongong Roller Hawks NWBL team, including 27-year old multiple Paralympian Tristan Knowles, 31-year old Brett Stibners, 26-year old Jeremy Doyle and 33-year old Grant Mizens.

The Rollers are the reigning Paralympic Games Gold medallists but disappointingly finished third at the recent World Cup and will be aiming to improve dramatically at the World Championships.

The Australians open their account against France on Thursday July 8 before facing Turkey, Algeria, Mexico and finally Paralympic World Cup rival Canada, in the final game of the preliminary rounds.

Japan, Poland, USA, Italy, Great Britain and South Korea have been drawn in the opposite pool.

South Coast Wolves under 18s in line for play-offs

With three full rounds to play the South Coast Wolves under 18s looked assured of making the final 6 play-offs. The Wolves have a game in hand against their nearest rivals and are sitting on 37 points behind the Bonnyrigg White Eagles (47 points) and the Sutherland Sharks (40). They are well ahead of fourth placed Manly United (31) while Sydney United and West Sydney Berries are next best on 26 points each.
The other Wolves teams with a seemingly realistic chance of making the play-offs are the under 13 and 16 teams. The 13s are on 31 points and trail 6th placed Blacktown City by just two points. The 16s are also running 7th but are 4 points behind 6th placed Sydney United and will require a winning streak and results to fall their way to make the play-offs.

To follow the Wolves teams as they chase the play-offs, the next three rounds are:
Saturday July 17     against Sydney Olympic at Elizabeth Park Bellambi.
Sunday July 25     against Bankstown City at Elizabeth Park Bellambi.
Saturday July 31     against Apia Leichardt Tigers at Lambert Park.
All games begin with the under 13s at 9am. For further information and results go to: http://www.sportingpulse.com/comp_info.cgi?c=1-5977-0-102186-0&pool=0&round=0&a=ROUND
