 Former real estate professional and small business owner Philip Clifford says the Liberals would get us back to the forefront as one of the nation’s top cities.
He believes the Labor Party has taken our community for granted.
Born in Bulli, Phil attended St Michael’s, St Paul’s Bellambi and Bulli High Schools before joining BHP Steelworks as a trainee in industrial chemistry.
He also spent three years in our coal mines before turning his attention to real estate specialising at first in valuations.
Philip says he came from a working class family which has inspired his interest in people and the community over the years.
Married with two grown up children Philip, 58-years-of-age and now living in Woonona, says that wherever he goes around the community the people want change.
“People out there just want a fair go and some real attention from their Federal politician and the government of the day,” he says.
Philip says we all want to see a stronger national economy, less government debt and waste, but it’s at our grass roots level in our own community that we must go forward and to do this we must shake off the complacency of the incumbent Labor Party and their elected local representatives.
If elected he will work to bring the recognition we deserve from government and as a result our city would be able to better compete with other regions for more funding for major infrastructure, better services and job opportunities.
“Once we were able to do this but in recent years we have been neglected by the government of the day and we must vote for a change which will bring about a revival,” he says.
And this is a major reason why Philip says the voters must say “no, not again” to the Labor Party.
Philip has already started walking the streets of the northern suburbs, in particular, and says his feelings about our future are echoed by the people he meets. | 
Who is Mr Clifford kidding? While I have no intention voting Labor this time around, nor will I vote for the Libs. Why? Simple really . . . and I can't for the life of me understand why Labor has become so soft on the issue. For more than a decade, the neo-con Howard government starved Labor states like NSW of much-needed GST revenue, while simultaneously starving the entire country of much-needed infrastructure - roads, railways, hospitals, education - all in the name of a 'budget surplus'. We all need to remember this before casting a vote in favour of Abbott and his team!
