Presentations were made by Glen Moore (Wollongong Science Centre) and Andrew Connery (Your Online Community).
Glen Moore said, "The Science Centre could not exist without its Sponsors and Volunteers. The Centre is dedicated to inspiring and educating the community." He explained that Illawarra Coal had sponsored a current exhibition Dinosaurs Fossils and Coal and were also sponsoring a new exhibition called “The Machine” which will feature working and interactive exhibits of various machines. This major exhibition which has exhibits developed by the Science Centre’s volunteer staff as well as BlueScope Steel’s Engineering cadets is due to be launched in August. Andrew Connery of Your Online Community (www.youronlinecommunity.com.au) explained how search worked on the internet. He discussed a local innovation called SmartPages (www.smartpages.com.au), an online business directory, which is easy for potential customers to use and find what they want in the local area.
Students of Illawarra Sports High School gave an update regarding the Work Experience Project (WEP). This is an online joint venture between a number of i3net companies and the School. The students are currently familiarising themselves with Intercad's solidworks software which was kindly donated to the school from Alan Wickett, representative of Intercad.
The i3net was formed several years ago in response to a need to promote awareness of the high technology innovation base within the Illawarra. The Network is focused on increasing business opportunities for Illawarra industry.
