Bionics for 2020

Are you a student in Year 8-11 and have an opinion about the future of Science and Bionics? Well, the "Bionics for 2020 Competition" is for you!

Let us know what you would develop and why and you could win great prizes and the opportunity to meet world-leading researchers in their laboratories at the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute, based at the University of Wollongong’s high tech Innovation Campus.

Plus you'll be presented with your prize by world-renowned scientist Professor Graeme Clark, inventor of the cochlear ear implant and a Chief Investigator with ACES. Since 1978, more than 100,000 people all over the world have been fitted with a bionic ear. It's been hailed as one of the most important breakthroughs ever in medical science. It’s simple, all you need to do is tell us "what new Bionic parts you would develop for humans, why and how" and submit this along with an Entry Form to the "Bionics for 2020 Competition".

Write an essay, develop a poster or create a design. Entries should be limited to three A4 pages (or equivalent).

Winners invited to spend an afternoon at ACES during National Science Week, tour world-class working laboratories and meet researchers and PhD students from the University of Wollongong working in the cutting edge of bionics 
Plus $100 voucher for each category winner (Year 8,9,10 and 11) 
Plus a signed copy of "Sounds from silence: Graeme Clark and the bionic ear story" 
Finalists (and winners) invited to a special presentation event at the Wollongong Science Centre & Planetarium during National Science Week, where they will meet other participants, meet researchers from UOW and ACES and hear about the exciting advances in bionics being carried out right here in Wollongong. Prizes will be awarded by Professor Graeme Clark, who will also give a short, entertaining update on bionoics research. 
Plus complementary passes to the Wollongong Science Centre & Planetarium 
All entrants receives a Certificate of Participation.

Bionics for 2020 is registered as a National Science Week event and supported by the Wollongong Science Centre & Planetarium and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI).

*ACES is a team of biologists, clinicians, chemists, physicists, engineers and material scientists is engaged in medical bionics, nerve and muscle repair. Giving hope to peoples lives.
