Say ‘thanks’ to your local Red Cross volunteers
During National Volunteer Week, 10-16 May, Red Cross is urging all of us to do something a little extra to show we appreciate the work of Red Cross volunteers.
Saying ‘thanks’ can be as simple sending a thank you or making a donation to support the work of Red Cross volunteers at redcross.org.au
“Red Cross volunteers have always been motivated by the most fundamental desire to help those who are most vulnerable,” said Robert Tickner, Red Cross Chief Executive Officer.
“Our volunteers work tirelessly in cities and towns right across Australia, sometimes around the clock during bushfires and emergencies, as well as joining international humanitarian efforts around the globe.
“Whether it’s serving nutritious breakfasts to school children who might otherwise go without, or making friendly daily calls to the isolated and elderly, Red Cross volunteers help to improve the lives of vulnerable people by giving something that is becoming increasingly rare these days, our time.
“Red Cross has traditionally been supported by a wonderful team of older female volunteers. Now many men are now signing up as Red Cross volunteers across all our services, and young people are joining programs such as ‘save-a-mate’ to help provide drug and alcohol education for other young people.”
To find out more about becoming a Red Cross volunteer, or to make a donation to support the work of Red Cross volunteers, go to the Red Cross website at www.redcross.org.au or ring the toll free number 1800 811 700.
Thank you emails can be sent to supportourvolunteers@redcross.org.au
