Futureworld’s Pat Mowbray Eco Innovation award goes to Shellharbour

When Futureworld announced its Pat Mowbray Eco Innovation Award at its Gala Dinner on Friday night ecohomeshellharbour.com owner Scott Rowe was left speechless. The Eco innovations awards were hotly contested by thirteen extremely competitive nominations ranging from environmental websites to packaging products to innovative waste reduction.

The winning nomination Eco Home Shellharbour is just as the name suggests, a demonstration of sustainable living, featuring eco-design, eco-materials and eco-technology all under one roof. This ‘lived in’ example of sustainable living attracted the attention of the judging panel consisting mostly of academics from the award sponsor, University of Wollongong. Eco Home Shellharbour is self sufficient for water and waste water in a residential setting and well on the way to being self sufficient in energy. The home combines eco design principles with sustainable and recycled building material and showcases technologies and products.
Shellharbour’s Eco Home owner, Scott Rowe said “It was an honor to accept the Dr Pat Mowbray Eco Innovation Award, I had the privilege of meeting Dr Pat Mowbray at one of our house tours last year only weeks before her passing. Dr Mowbray and her work are an inspiration.”

The Futureworld eco technology centre is an educational resource centre that has promoted sustainability in the Illawarra since its inception in 1992. Futureworld’s inaugural award “Eco Innovation in Business” was made in 2008. Our first award was well received and Commercial Diving Services subsequently received many local and international awards for their innovation “Hull Surface Treatment”.
