Yesterday I was down at Bushrangers Bay, simply walking about and soaking up the tranquillity of being in nature, and as I looked around I had this realisation hit me that how it is in nature is how it was meant to be. We’ve gone ahead and created a new world to live in with all the conveniences and luxuries that we now enjoy, but how often do we really step back in time to a place with no buildings, no taps, no mobile phones and simply enjoy being a part of nature.
Whether you believe in God or a scientific theory of creation it’s undeniable that since the inception of the earth we, as humans, have changed it massively. We are so far removed from the initial world that was created that many of us now feel uncomfortable in our natural environments, and comfortable in this artificial environment that we’ve created.
Take a look around you right now. How many things remain in their natural state? How many processes have natural products gone through to end up on your desk as a ‘good’ consumer item?
At some point, everything around you came from nature. It was taken from the earth in its natural state and processed and processed and processed some more until it finally made it to you.
So what is my point today? Really, all I want to do is to bring awareness back to nature, to where we started and to our true and natural state. How long ago was it that you sat in nature and listened? To truly appreciate all that life is, and has to offer. There is certain energy in nature that simply can’t be found in a high rise building, the fresh air, the power and the beauty of creation is what cleanses and heals our souls. William Blake puts it beautifully in his poem:
“To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
An eternity in an hour.”
– William Blake
He speaks of enjoying nature for what it is, allowing us to be transformed and see through the exterior. What a beautiful poem, and what a great reminder for our lives.
Many people speak of ‘recharging the batteries’ in nature, and I personally find it’s a must in every day. If I don’t manage to spend at least 30 minutes outdoors my head begins to cloud over by the end of the day and my clarity and energy is drained. When I’m working at my best, I’ll start my day with a walk to the beach, and throughout the day I’ll take a few short walks or strolls out in the garden, even just working in the vegie patch gives me a massive energy boost!
So don’t take my word for it, go out and try it. Find a walk to do, or a park to sit in, we all live so close to the beach that it’s a short drive at the most, so sit and watch the seagulls or pelicans flying about, listen to the waves crashing on the shore, and feel the energy of the earth recharge your batteries.
“Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you.”
- Frank Lloyd Wright
Have a wonderful day, and take some time out to get back to nature, even half an hour will give you amazing results
