I’m always happy to hear people ask about life coaching and, to be honest, I’m not surprised that it has a mystical or unknown factor about it.
Today I’d like to give you some facts on life coaching. What it is, what it isn’t and whether it may be the right way for you to improve your life.
What Life Coaching is:
Life Coaching helps you to appreciate your current circumstances, regain your focus and concentrate on your core goals, be they personal or corporate. Essentially, life coaching is about having an additional person on your team to maximise and expedite your success.
Greater focus, determination and momentum are gained through having a personal life coach. The coach's role is to challenge, provide insight and to guide the client in their desired direction using techniques that question, examine and explore alternatives to the current situation. It’s a great conversation designed to help you think outside the square and take action towards your goals.
What Life Coaching isn’t:
Many people get confused with coaching, consulting, psychology, or even counselling. Coaching is none of these things; it is a discipline of its own and focuses on drawing out the answers from you. As a coach, we believe that every client has the answers within them and that the right questions and support will bring about the required change.
Some other disciplines work more on a diagnosis and cure principle rather than working with the client to really establish what it is that will work for them to move towards their goals. Some disciplines hone in on the problem and spend multitudes of time assessing every detail of the issues without the forward momentum that coaching offers. Coaching is attentive to past issues, although works towards finding solutions that will work to support the client obtain their current objectives.
Is Life Coaching right for you?
Here are a few questions to get you thinking about your life and if coaching is an option to help you move forward towards the objectives you’ve set.
1. Are you feeling stuck in a given situation and know that something needs to change?
2. Have you been procrastinating about a recent challenge without any forward momentum?
3. Are you lacking specific goals to work towards?
4. Do you feel your life should have been more and that you’re not reaching your potential?
5. Do you feel stuck in the mundane routine of work, eat, sleep, work?
6. Are there things you’ve been wanting to do, but you’re lacking the confidence or courage?
