Bottomline
by John Bown

SORRY!

But surely not a national day

With most of our population split on whether or not we should be making an apology to the stolen generation or not the idea of an ongoing annual “sorry” day is a bit over the fence.

Let’s get it right up there, I for one am not really interested in saying “sorry”.

And as for this talk about having an annual “Sorry” day, that’s going a bit far isn’t it?

Add to all the talk and there’s likely to be a special party held in Canberra on “Sorry” Day with invitations aplenty going to those who feel they’ve been hard done by over the years.

I presume it will be a dry affair!!!!

WAKE UP REBA

What’s our State Health Minister and her cronies got to hide?

Ms Meagher – it might be better spelt “meagre” – has rejected a proposal from her Federal counterparts to introduce a scorecard plan which would readily access our hospitals performance.

She is quoted as saying direct comparisons can lead to a distorted view of how hospitals actually perform.

Let me tell you Minister the tremendous feedback I received to my article on your system last week would send shivers down your spine.

Then again, I suppose, your opposition to sharing the real facts suggests you might need attention to your spine.

I’m sure they’d find a bed for you at North Shore hospital.

LET’S GET SOME SERVICE

All of us from time to time forget things and on Saturday I realised I needed to pay this bill, but the post office was the only place to do it.

And, of course, our post offices don’t open on Saturdays depriving us of what should be a normal government service.

So what about it Kevin? It would certainly be move welcomed I’m sure by the majority.

IT’S TIME

The decision by the Illawarra – St George Dragons to name Mark Gasnier as 2008 skipper in his own right will be welcomed by most fans.

But I found it hard to get excited about only 15 000 bodies turning out to the NRL’s bumper season launch at the weekend. If that was a show of strength then there’s some rough times ahead.

And then all they wanted was for a Bulldogs player to be involved in and arrested after a nasty fracas in Wollongong on the night of the launch.

But unfortunately that’s the way sport is going these days.
