BMS is now in its 25th year of operation and Shaun became the boss last year when his long time partner Paul Brady decided to wind down a bit and Shaun bought out his share in the business.
In short BMS specialises in business equipment, IT network support and document management, all of which Shaun says are subject to ongoing technology advancements.
The business operates as far north as Helensburgh and across to Camden and the Southern Highlands and as far south as Uladulla and employs 32 people.
But as Shaun points out some of their customers also have links out of the region including as far north as Brisbane.
Shaun says BMS is heavily involved with many major suppliers, Canon & Lexmark as print solution partners; Hewlett Packard is their prime IT Hardware vendor, and companies such as Kaseya, Docuware, eCopy and Equitrac form important software partners
He and his staff are constantly kept busy with the changing face of technology, and they see their key role is to help customers understand, implement and draw benefit from technology
Born locally at Thirroul Shaun was educated at St Michael’s Thirroul and St Paul’s at Bellambi before joining the steelworks as a mechanical engineering cadet. But it was radiography that eventually captured his mind and after studying the science at the University of Newcastle he worked at a number of hospitals including Sydney’s Westmead.
Getting married and wanting to return to Wollongong he went to work with Telecom and became involved with phone systems before finally joining Paul Brady at BMS in 1988.
Workflow is all the go
Shaun says customers today are looking for more form their technology investment and in particular workflow solutions are being viewed favourably. “Our ability to build automated workflows around traditional paper processes is providing real benefits to clients”
He says that most noticeably the changes in printing and scanning processes have made the creation of automated workflows much easier
Much of their work today, he says, centres on helping their clients monitor and manage their networks 24/7. Networks today contain all the critical data of an organisation and customers want to know that this data is being protected, and the network performance monitored
“With so much change in our industry, we are constant challenged, and at BMS we are always striving to ensure our customers benefit from the evolving technologies. Every day at BMS is fascinating and that something I enjoy” he says
Even though work consumes much of his time Shaun still finds time to watch his young family play sport and likes to escape to the beach. |
