Wigs on wheels

A discreet and professional service

Wigs On Wheels is a discreet mobile wig service that comes to your home and according to their local representative, Affef Glossop, it’s certainly growing in popularity. This service is aimed at women who require a wig either for medical or cosmetic reasons.

And, as Affef says, the company’s mobile service doesn’t advertise on their cars, so you can have the representative call on you without the neighbours knowing.
Appointments are made to suit the individual requirements of the client.

The service comprises a group of women whose aim is to make the wig journey easier, confidential and friendly. For those who may be suffering an illness or hair loss condition, it provides a lighter and more compassionate experience. Once the client has chosen a wig, she is also shown how to wear the wig correctly and how to maintain and care for the wig so that it stays looking its best for a longer period of time.

Born in Wollongong and educated in Sydney and at Corrimal High School before moving into office administration and accounting, Affef says she has always had an interest in the beauty industry and three years ago decided to become actively involved in providing this service to the Illawarra and Southern Highlands.

She says it enables her to meet a wide range of people, to feel good about helping others, and to see the new confidence that it provides for women who are often reluctant to try on wigs in a retail environment.

“One of my more senior clients is actually 95 years of age,” she says.

Confidence builder

For many women who are dealing with chemotherapy, having a wig service come to their home and being able to chose a wig style in comfort gives them the confidence to venture out and still look great during their treatment.

Some women, Affef adds, will have their friends or family to support them at the appointment.

Wigs on Wheels carry a range of headwear including turbans, sports scarves, sun caps, scarf grips, head wraps and elasticised scarves which are made in Australia.

Affef points out that the wigs are of excellent quality with a great variety of styles and colours. The wigs have adjustable tabs to suit most head sizes.

The service is directed at women in need of a wig by caring women who understand.
