Dear Editor,
Frank Sartor’s Illawarra Regional Strategy in looking after the Illawarra Escarpment would be better off on the best fiction lists.
Illawarra residents, there is planned for the Woronora Plateau, top of the Illawarra Escarpment at Maddens Plains, a proposal for 6 large lots. Each lot to a have a dwelling on it. Two of them are 2 storeys. The rest, single. Initially, you may go, so what?
But this is the thin edge of the wedge into exploiting this bio-diversity, special catchment area. In the wings opposite is the still lurking around Golf suburb also at Maddens Plains. All, not only with the fragile concerns I’ve mentioned, but also in high bushfire zones with limited means of escape.
There can be no guarantee no overflow of septic tanks or stored materials wouldn’t contaminate the plateau.
Added to this there is suppose to be no threatened species in the area, but under the National Parks and Wildlife NSW government legislation, all native animals are protected. They are also not allowed to be distressed.
These DAs have been put in by a company that features Environmental Planning in their name. Yet, they want to rip the escarpment plateau apart. We, the people, must never let that happen to our most natural asset. Not just for us, but future generations. This will not help the proven reality of World Climate Change.
Council strongly object to this proposal and are seeking community support to protect the Illawarra Escarpment/Woronora Plateau, as they should. If you wish to object, closing date for submissions to Wollongong Council is February 7.

I would have thought that the current bail-out was doomed to failure, given that the requested donations would basically return nothing to the donors.
Any real chance of rescue has to involve selling shares in the ownership of the business – however tasteless that particular dish might be to the current ownership.
Hell, I would love some public-spirited people to donate to my business in the hope that it would continue to survive or prosper or grow.
