Hurley misses Olympics but off to World Championships

As reported last week Wollongong’s Robert Hurley did a personal best (PB) to come third to Grant Hackett and Craig Stevens in the 400m freestyle event at the Australian Swimming Championships. Later in the meet Hurley competed in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events. He made the final in all these events and swam PBs in each to finish with two fourths and a fifth.

In an interview with SportsLive before the championships, Hurley said, “My aim is to swim PBs. If I do that then I will be pleased as I cannot control how well other swimmers will go.”

While a little disappointed to do so well and miss an Olympic place, Hurley is now focusing on the World Short Course (25m pool) in Manchester next week.
