Thirroul and Lake Illawarra vie to be top team in junior cricket

After wins last weekend in the semis Thirroul and Lake Illawarra will play in the final of the Illawarra and South Coast junior cricket combined under 16A competition next weekend. The game will take place next Saturday and Sunday (14 and 15 March) at Shane Lee Oval.

Lake Illawarra made the final by scoring 4/162 (J McMahon 50, M Arblaster 45, K White 34 not out) to defeat Wests Blue 160 (M Calder 43, M McKenzie 48 N Brown 3/25, K White 2/18, N McAndrew 2/21). In the other semi Thirroul’s J Daskey took 5/31 to be instrumental in Balgownie only compiling 69 with the Magpies’ S Dallas playing alone hand for 36. Thirroul scored 5/177 (L Dunn 50, R Marsh 50, J Hand 35) to take the match easily.

Helensburgh and Corrimal are to play the final of the under 16B combined competition next weekend at Dalton Park South. Helensburgh 104 (H McCrae 46, J Sigmond 4/19) managed to score enough to pass Dapto’s first innings of 89 in spite of W Lucas’ half century (51). Helensburgh scored 7/79 (C Ring 35, Z Doyle 3/6). In the semi between Corrimal and Kiama, the match featured a strong all round performance by Corrimal’s J McCarthy-Sellings. He not only top scored (43) for his side in its innings of 147 but then also led the bowlers with 5/17 to have Kiama dismissed for 60.
  
In the other combined grade the 14As Dapto and Balgownie are to play out the final at Figtree Oval 2. The results of the semis were:

Balgownie 6/226 (J Wilson 40, C Brown 74, N Verma 3/34) defeated Wests 120 (J Holdsworth 30, J Corby 3/10, B Chapman 3/25)
Dapto 9/202 defeated Shellharbour City 154.

Illawarra Junior Cricket Presentation

The Illawarra Junior Cricket Presentation night is to be held on Sunday night 29 March at Master Builders Club from 6pm to 8pm. The event is free.

Illawarra Cricket hunts for Coaches, Managers and Scorers

Cricket Illawarra is seeking expressions of interest from people for the positions of Coach,  Manager & Scorer in its High Performance Unit for the following Representative teams for season 2009/10: Senior’s, U21 Colts, U19, U17, U16, U15, U14, U13 and U12

Minimum Requirements: Cricket Australia (CA) Level One Accreditation; Desirable - CA Level Two Accreditation. Expression of Interest applications close Sunday 4th April 2009 and are to be sent to Paul Brockley, High Performance Director, Cricket Illawarra.

Wollongong teams continue winning run in Premier Youth League Soccer

Last weekend Wollongong’s under 15, 16 and 18 sides picked up wins in round 2 to each have two wins from two games in the Premier Youth League. Against Bonnyrigg White Eagles at Elizabeth Park Bellambi, Wollongong totaled 3 wins, a draw (under 14s) and a loss (13s). Results for the round were: 
Under 13: Wollongong lost 4 - 2
Under 14: Wollongong drew 1 all
Under 15: Wollongong won 1 nil     2 wins
Under 16: Wollongong won 1 nil   2 wins
Under 18: Wollongong won 1 nil    2 wins

Next weekend Wollongong is again at home and plays Sydney United at Elizabeth Park Bellambi with the 13s beginning at 9 am.

A first for NSW - youth girls AFL starting in the Illawarra in 2009!!

Hey girls - like to try AFL footy? Well now you can because in 2009 the all new Illawarra Youth Girls AFL (IYGAFL) is starting. No AFL experience necessary - it doesn't matter if you haven't played AFL at all, you’ll be taught.

Games will be played under semi-modified rules with the focus being on enjoyment. So if you're between 14 and 17 and you like having fun playing sport then this is for you.

Registrations are now open via www.girlsafl.com or you can register at any of the junior clubs on their registration days. And by the way - by playing youth girls AFL in the Illawarra in 2009 you'll be creating history as one of the inaugural first year players in the only youth girls competition in NSW.
