Figtree under 10s show early form
Figtree’s under 10A soccer team is off to a flying start this season. On May 17 they took out the Illawarra GALA Day hosted by Kiama Junior Soccer Club.

Also the team is the current ladder leader in the 10A competition.
Wollongong’s Knowles and Stibners score as Rollers claim gold
Wollongong Roller Hawks Tristan Knowles top scored in the grand final of the Paralympic Cup when Australia’s Rollers trounced the United States 69-48 to win Gold at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester. Also in the points in the grand final was Roller Hawks Brett Stibners. The tournament was held between Great Britain, Germany, United States and Australia.
In the grand final, the United States got on top early with a three-point lead after five minutes but the Rollers won the game in the second and third quarters as they outscored the States 40-22, to set up a 20-point buffer heading into the final term.
The Australians lifted their game for the final, shooting 51 per cent from the field to just 32 per cent from the United States. The Rollers were also on top of the States on the boards; the Aussies won the rebound count 41-27, led by Justin Eveson with 14 rebounds.
The Rollers’ Beijing Paralympians dominated the scoreboard as Tristan Knowles put up a game high 16 points and seven assists, Brett Stibners posted 14 points in support. Brett Stibners is from Oak Flats (NSW) and Tristan Knowles, while originally from Canberra, now resides in Wollongong (NSW). Brain Bell led the United States with 15 points.

Top clash washed out as Eagles swoop on Mariners
The top of the table clash between unbeaten competition leaders Dapto Chiefs and defending premiers Wests Cardinals was washed out in round 8 fixtures of the 2009 Illawarra Baseball League premiership last Saturday. Overnight rain made Hector Harvey Reserve, Dapto unplayable and also caused a relocation of the Berkeley Eagles v. Shoalhaven Mariners to the No. 2 Field at Fred Finch Park, Berkeley.
The Kiama Braves v. Northern Pirates game at Kiama Downs saw Pirates secure their third win of the season with a 5-0 result over Braves. The win was set up by Pirates pitchers, starter John Noonan allowing just two hits in 6.2 innings and reliever Lachlan Crawley being hitless in 1.1 innings.
The visitors got away to a good start with three runs in the first inning and added further runs in the fourth and ninth innings. In a total of 11 hits, first baseman Andrew Clifford stood out with 3 / 4 and one RBI and Chris Newbold and Corey Hayman chipped in with 2 / 4 apiece.
Berkeley Eagles defeated Shoalhaven Mariners 22-2 in seven innings, hits being 21-2. Eagles rightfielder Josh Doyle continued his recent good form batting 4 / 5 with 2 RBI’s. Aaron Tritton also batted 4 / 5 and batted in 4 runs. Shortstop Sam Thornton hit a three run homer in the fifth and batted 3 / 6 with 4 RBI’s and catcher Mick Shipp also featured with 3 / 5.
Eagles starter Tim Beard pitched three hitless shutout innings followed by Joe Anson with two shutout innings for one hit. Doyle and Thornton rounded out the pitching for Eagles pitching one inning each, Doyle conceding no hits and Thornton one hit and one earned run.

Washouts galore in Premier Youth League
The true value of the Tiger Turf surface at Seymour Shaw Park Sutherland was once again shown last weekend as it was the only venue at which the scheduled matches could go ahead in the Premier Youth League. All other matches will have to be rescheduled.

Many sports including basketball at Sydney’s games for social to elite
Sydney is hosting the 2009 World Masters Games involving over 28 sports between October 10 – 18. Basketball is one of the sports taking part, utilising six venues across Sydney.
Divisions:
Men and Women 30+ and 35+ and possibly a wheelchair division
Men and Women 40+, 45+ and 50+
Men and Women 55+, 60+, 65+ and 70+
A Grade – Premier: This elite grade is for teams consisting of players with international or national experience. At least two players should have international experience (played for their country). The other team members are expected to be at a state/ province/ elite Club player level.
B Grade – Competitive: This grade is for those players who compete in a high standard of domestic level basketball, such as A Grade in their local competition, and athletes who have represented their club or town in state/ province competition.
C Grade – Recreational: This grade is for those players who participate in non-competitive and/or lower grade leagues and for social and casual players.
There will be only one grade for the 70+ age category.
